Buying a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport out of state

I may be purchasing a 2001 Jeep Cherokee from Texas. It has an inline 6 cylinder motor. Would this type of jeep, originally sold in Texas, be equipped with whatever smog requirements that California has? Thank you

ANSWER:  

It's true, there are differences with California legal and Federal legal emission requirements. For the most part California is stricter. However, any used vehicle (such as this 2001 Jeep Cherokee) which is equipped with all Federal required emission components it was shipped with from the factory, can pass the California smog inspection process and be legally registered in this state, so long as it has be maintained and produces emission levels below California's emissions cutscores.
