All 1976 and newer vehicles need to pass a smog check before being allowed California registration. The emission standards for older vehicle are loose. California understands older motorhomes/RVs, even when new, produced higher emissions than new modern motorhomes. With that they have emission standards which will allow an older vehicle to pass the smog test however these vehicle must be in moderate operating condition and must not have any emission tampers.
