My 2014 BMW328 was purchased and registered last year in NJ (my state of residence currently). Possibly, I'm moving to CA for a new job. In researching the smog check info for California, I do not see mention of diesel auto's and the smog check and certificate that is required. Do you have any information about diesel cars from out-of-state being tested in CA. Thank you.
Answer:
Diesel vehicles (1998 & newer and under 14,500 GVWR) are treated the same a gasoline powered vehicles with respect to the smog check. Your BMW 328d will need a smog test before being eligible for California vehicle registration.
