California Smog Check Repair Assistance
The State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair can help repair your vehicle. Receive up to $500.00 dollars in FREE smog diagnosis and repairs through the Consumer Assistance Program (CAP). The CAP Repair Assistance program is designed to help low-income consumers bring their vehicles into compliance with California emission standards.
Through the CAP program the State will pay the STAR Smog Check & Repair station of your choice up to $500.00 for emissions related repairs performed on your vehicle.

When Can I Apply? The Consumer Assistance Program is available to you only during your vehicle's biennial smog test cycle. You can only apply for consumer assistance when the Department of Motor Vehicles asks for your car to undergo a smog inspection during the registration renewal process.
Who Can Apply? The consumer assistance program is not available to residents new the California registering their vehicle for the first time. The consumer assistance program is also not available if your vehicle registration has expired past 3 months or if your in the process of buying or selling the vehicle. CAP is only available to low income applicants.
