Failed Smog Test

I Want to Retire My 1988 Toyota Truck

My 1988 Toyota truck failed the smog test. I believe the smog tech did something to my little truck because it always passes. Now it failed and I can not seem to get it smogged and no one is able to tell me anything definite about the cost to repair it. The estimates range from $500 to $1,200. Someone said I might be able to turn in the vehicle for some cash. Can you advise? Thank you.

Answer:

Look into the California Vehicle Buy Back Program. The state can offer up to $1500 for your 1988 Toyota Pickup truck if the vehicle qualifies with the Vehicle Retirement requirements. Most importantly, your Toyota Pickup's smog check failure must not be due solely to an emissions system tamper, and the vehicle must not lapse registration more than 120 days in two years.
