Registering Car in CA While it's Out of State

Hi, My wife and I are purchasing a car from my parents in Arizona, to use for a few months while she works in Tennessee (I am remaining here in California). Is it possible to register the car here now, and then smog check it when she returns? Or get an out of state smog check?


Answer:		You will need a California smog check in order to complete the registration process. An out of state smog check will not be accepted in California. You may begin the registration process in California but it will not be completed (nor considered valid registration) until the smog check is performed. posted by SmogTips Support
