Resetting Service Engine Soon on a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

How do I reset the "Service Engine Soon" light on a 2001 Eclipse?

Answer:

You have two options to reset the Service Engine Soon light on your Mitsubishi Eclipse. Note, both methods with turn of the service engine soon light as well as erase all stored trouble codes and emission monitor data. Without emission monitor data your Mitsubishi can not pass the smog test.

Option 1 is to use an OBD-II scan tool with an Erase feature to reset the ECU (engine control unit).

Option 2
is to removed the battery leads for 10 minutes.

After having reset the service engine soon light, you'll need to drive your Mitsubishi in order to get the emission monitors ready for the smog check. Emission monitors are internal self-tests which the computer performs while you are driving your vehicle. Without all but the EVAP monitor ready/complete your Eclipse will not be able to pass the inspection.
