Can I get an Illinois emissions test in California?

I am in California and need a smog check to send to Illinois for my 1998 BMW 318 registration. Can I get a smog test for car in California and send it to Illinois? How do I do that? And, what do I tell the smog station?

ANSWER:  

You'll need to check with the Illinois DMV on this matter. If they will accept a California Smog Check Certificate you can visit any CA smog station you'd like and ask for a regular smog inspection. Should they ask for specifics you can explain it is to send out of state.
