1990 to 1995 Honda Accord How to Pull Trouble Codes

Ok I did the scan to see why my Honda Accords check engine light is on. Found out it was the EGR valve. I fixed the EGR valve but the check engine light is now on only when I drive it so I can't check to see what the trouble code it is now because it only comes on when my Honda starts moving. I try to reset the ECU but it didn't work. I unplugged the battery that didn't work either. I need to pass the smog check but I don't know what to do.

Answer:

You can retrieve your Honda Accord's trouble code(s) yourself by using inserting a jumper wire at the diagnostic connector located in the passenger side kick panel. Insert the jumper wire in the 2 PIN service connector between pins 1 and 2. You should also see a 3 PIN connecter. This is used for a trouble code scanner. Trouble codes will be stored in the ECU even if the check engine light is not on.

Once the jumper is inserted, turn on the ignition key. The trouble code(s) will begin flashing using the check engine light indicator. Begining counting the flashes. Use Trouble Code 23 as a guide. Example: 2 long flashes followed by 3 short flashes = Trouble Code 23. If more than one trouble coce exists there will be a long pause in between the codes.
