General Smog Check

2001 Ford 7.3L Diesel F-350 2WD Truck. OBDII Code PO675 and PO475 - Will these codes fail the smog test?

My 7.3L diesel has the check engine light on. The PO675 code is my #5 glow plug is dirty or needs replacing. I know this only effects start-up and the PO475 is a "soft code" created due to when I had to repair an oil leak at the turbo pedestal I un-plugged and disconnected and capped the EBPV. Now that diesels are required to have a smog test I am concerned about the engine light. I am the original owner of this truck and I use to work on heavy equipment diesels so I am competent on the diesel motor. My truck has 152,000 miles on it. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to ask these questions to solve my vehicle issues.

Answer:

Any problem which causes the Check Engine light to illuminate is considered an emissions fault and must be repaired prior to the smog test. Once the glow plug on your Ford F-350 is repaired or replaced, the computer will need to be reset (hopefully resetting the P0475 code as well) and your truck then be smog inspected.
