Is Nissan Sentra eligible for the vehicle buy back program?

I bought my Nissan Sentra in Torrance, CA in 1999 and it was last registered in CA in late 2003; I then left CA in 2003 and have just moved back to CA in Feb. 2012. I am 68 yrs. old and my only income is social security. Does this disqualify me for your program? I don't know why my car failed the emissions test, but am concerned that the repair will be expensive. After the repair,I must also pay a smaller cost for a retest and the certificate.

Answer:

The California buy back program requires your Nissan Sentra be registered in California for at least the past two years. The fact that your Nissan has had a lapse in CA registration renders it ineligible for the California Vehicle Buy Back Program. There are however private services which would be willing to buy your smog check failing Nissan from you. They usually advertise as Junk Car or Cash For Car services.
