Failed Smog Test

I purchased a toyota corolla 1990. I did not know the law about it being smogged and bought it.

At my cost I changed the wires, oil and transmission fluid. A mechanic sold this car to me for one of his customers. The original owner stated he would pay to fix it. I delivered my car to the mechanic which in turn he gave the car to the orginal owner because he stated he was not going to fix it and disappeared for four days. It needs a sr valve, an o2 sensor and maybe more. This mechanic and his customer are liars and saw me as an eager dummy. My son said I should just donate car. It looks crummy but runs well. What should i do?

Answer:

Here's the problem with buying a vehicle without the smog certificate, if the vehicle fails the test it could cost you hundreds to get it repaired. Sometimes sellers try to get the car to pass, and realize it will cost too much money, and decide to sell the car. The buyer then will have to go to small claims court to recover their losses. If the mechanic was involved with the sale of this vehicle by any means you may report them to the DMV as an "Unlicensed Dealer", you may also advise the seller you are prepared to file a small claims suit.
