1992 Ford Taurus Approved For CAP Vehicle Buy Back

My 1992 Ford Taurus failed the smog check so I applied to CA Vehicle Retirement Program. I called today and they said I was approved and it is in the mail. My registration expires today. Do I really need it registered even though I'm going to take it to a dismantler in a few days once I get the Approval slip in the mail. Can I just register it as PNO since that only costs $18, then get a one day moving permit to drive it to the dismantler? Will the dismantler even check to see if the current reg. fees are paid or if it is on PNO or will they just look at the Title and the Approval slip from the CAP program?


Answer:		We'd recommend checking back with CAP regarding any new policy change since the program resumed. The latest information we received indicates the vehicle is eligible for CAP Vehicle Retirement as long as the registration has not lapsed greater than 180 days within a two year period. On this information you should be fine with simply providing the Dismantler with your vehicle's Title and CAP approval notice.
