I took my Ford Focus to get a smog check. The smog technician finished and charged me for the smog inspection. Then said, your Ford failed that's why I can't give you a smog certificate.
He pointed to a little hose in the front of engine and said it needs new solenoid. That's all he said. After reviewing report I notice that the inspection reason says "Change of Ownership". This could disqualify me from getting assistance in repair? He had DMV renewal notice in his hands.
Then I noticed visual inspection says TAMPERED. It has not been tampered and this would disqualify me too. FUNCTIONAL and EMISSIONS portion of the smog test passed. The PCV failed, vacuum lines sensors - disconnected, and Other related emission... failed.
I went back to the smog technician to ask why it says tampered, disconnected and they got very mad at me and told me that the system puts in those words. The little hose has a little plastic tube inside and obviously broke off from the solenoid. He said that means disconnected. He says there was no option for defective or needs repair. I read that the PCV test is looking for smoke and there was no smoke. I watched. Can the broken PCV hose from solenoid cause the pcv and other related companents to fail? Because he put disconnected and not defective, I assume that is why it says tampered or did he chose that option as well.
Now I have a smog check on record as tampered which it is not. Had a ford technician look at it and said solenoid isn't even an emission control component. Of course it should be fixed but. This technican has been cited twice for not following smog check instructions properly. What do I do?
