Emission Components for a 1976 Chevy Blazer

My 1976 Blazer came with a 400 and factory dual exhaust. No Catalytic Converter shield or provissions for one, exhaust hangers down both frame rails factory rivited to the frame...so it never came with a cat from the factory. It also had no vapor canister. How will that work for California smog testing? How can I find out EXACTLY what smog equipment it came with from the factory...i.e. AIR pump, EGR, etc...

Answer:

According to the Mitchell Emissions Application Guide, a 1976 Chevy Blazer (49-State Federal)emissions was equipped from the factory with the following emissions equipment:

  • PCV System
  • ACL System (pre-heat tube)
  • SPK (Spark advance)

A 1976 Chevy Blazer w/ 6.6L 400 engine GVW 6001 LBS & over (49-State Emissions) can be registered in California without additional emissions equipment. You must only ensure it has all emissions components which it came with from the factory.

There is no indication this vehicle came equipped with an AIR Pump, EGR system, EVAP system, or CAT; for Federal use. The California version of the 1976 Chevy Blazer was equipped with the Federal components plus an AIR Pump (AIS) and EVAP system.
