1992 Toyota Camry Air Intake Hose Question

Had to have the cat. assembly replaced. That is done. Air intake hose has been duct taped for many years and needs to be replaced. My question relates to the hose. While looking online or calling places i am finding that air-intake hoses are available except for my toyota with california emissions. While my car is california specs. i am now living in Ont. Canada (long story-came to take care of a relative) and need to replace that hose. What is the difference with a regular air-intake hose for my car and one for cal. emissions. Is it just for the visual inspection (in Cal.) or is there a difference in the hose itself. Could you please explain that throughly so i know if i have to buy the hose from the dealer...$$$ or if i can purchase a high quality aftermarket (can you suggest a brand)(EO direct fit replacement) that will work on my car and pass emissions here. While my car is cal. specs....they do not do a visual. That is why the Bosal cat. assembly on my car should pass emissions here. With much appreciation, Rita.

Answer:

The difference with the California emissions certified Air Intake Hose for your 1992 Toyota Camry is that the California version has a vacuum hose connection which allows for a small diameter vacuum hose to run to the intake manifold. It is very different in design from a 49-state emissions version, and they can not be swapped.

Luckily an aftermarket and California emissions EO Air Intake Hose for you Toyota Camry can be found but at a little more expense. It is not necessary to purchase a dealer Air Intake hose. The air filters for this vehicle (so long as they fit within the air cleaner box) are all standard and California approved.
