General Smog Check

I need help with HEI distributor and computer control engine ignition timing.

I have a 1985 Chevy C10 it has a HEI distributor in it with a 4 pin connector that goes to it for the computer controled ignition timing. I have another distributor made by MSD that is also HEI and has a carb number (it has a little smog pass sticker thing) but it does not have the 4 pin connector. Will I pass the smog check if I put it in my truck?

Answer:

You will not pass the smog test if the component is not identical to the one used by Chevy. The replacement will be considered an emissions tamper and your vehicle will fail the smog check, not to mention timing may be off and cause a visual smog check failure as well. We recommend strictly using the ignition timing distributor recommend for your Chevy; OEM part only.
