Out of State Vehicle

2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES Federal Emissions

Hi, I have the vehicle above. It is a federal emissions vehicle, originally from Arizona. When I received the title from the previous owner, It was an Arizona title. The vehicle was currently registered to him in CA, with CA plates. I have not yet received my new title, but will this raise any kind of problems or anything like that? He is an active duty service member, as am I.

Answer:

We don't see a reason why there would be any issue with this title transfer. USED Out of state vehicles are eligible for California registration, as apparently this particular Mitsubishi Lancer has already been registered in California. Having presented an old out-of-state title as opposed to it's currently California title may be causing a delay, or it's possible the DMV is simply back-logged. Typically it takes 3-4 weeks to receive a new title. You may be able to follow up on this matter by calling the DMV at (800) 777-0133.
