Registering an Out of State 1989 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel

I'm looking to register a 1989 VW Jetta Diesel in California, which I purchased out of state. Being that this is an out of state vehicle does it still qualify for for smog exemption? I heard diesels older than 1997 are California smog exempt, but It's not clear if that applies to out of state vehicles too. Thank You.


Answer:		As of this time California does not require smog inspections on diesel cars 1997 and older, regardless of whether the diesel vehicle is purchased in California or out-of-state.
