1997 Toyota Camry Engine Problems Can Not Get Smog Test

Hi. I have a 1997 Toyota Camry with a busted camshaft and engine head. The engine won't start so I can't drive it to get a smog check. I have already paid the registration fees ahead of time and just need to get the smog check done but now I can't even get the car to move an inch. It is now over 30 days past the due date for my registration and when I go to the DMV they tell me I can't do anything unless I have smog test results or pay a penalty. What steps should I take from here?

Answer:

You can either get a Temporary Operating Permit or place your Toyota Camry under Non-Operational Status in order to avoid penalty fees, and untill you have your Toyota Camry repaired. You'd have to get in touch with the DMV to find out how much penalty fee are. Getting a 30 day temporary operating permit should cost $50.00. Get the latest info from the DMV at (800) 777-0133.
