You will need to have a smog check repair station extract the trouble codes stored in your Crown Victoria's Engine Control Computer (ECC) in order to determine the cause of the check engine light turning on. If the light intermittently turns on and off, the fault might be a loose electrical connection at an emissions component. Using a scan tool, a smog station can determine the component responsible for illuminating the check engine light and diagnose the fault further.
