2010 Chrysler Town and Country Emission Monitors

I have a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country. The check engine light was on because of a defective EGR sensor. I replaced the sensor and cleared the trouble code. How many miles do I have to dirve it so that the emission monitors set. Right now it says the monitors are not ready and it won't pass the smog test.

Answer:

Chrysler Town & Country Drive Cycle

Since replacing the EGR valve sensor and clearing the trouble code(s) your Chrysler Town and Country's emission monitors were reset as well... they were erased, and now need to be back in "ready" or "complete" mode. In order to do that you'll need to drive your Chrysler, we recommend 200-300 miles over the course of a week.

There is a specific drive pattern that will help you get through an entire drive cycle faster, however it is complex and must be followed closely. On public roadways, this might be dangerous to perform, difficult at the least. Perform at your own risk. Smog check repair stations suggest performing drive cycles using dynomometers. This is how the Chrysler dealership would perform the drive cycle.

The main points to follow are these:

You'll need to drive for at least 200 miles in a variety driving conditions; traffic, freeway, city, stop and go. The gas tank should always be between 1/4 to 3/4 full of gas; never below or above the 1/4-3/4 marks.

One trip will be needed where your Town and Country is parked for at least an hour and then restarted. This is required to set the EVAP monitor, and is recommend to be parked overnight.
