Is it possible the smog test you obtained last year was for the purpose of transferring the vehicle's title to your name?
If yes... vehicles have to be smog checked every two years. The smog check required for a title transfer does not reset a vehicle's biennial smog check requirement. The odd or even number year in which a vehicle's smog check is due does not change.
If no... please contact the DMV at (800) 777-0133. Contact the State Smog Check Referee's Office at (800) 622-7733 if there is any discrepancy with the DMV requirements.
