2003 Toyota Corolla Registered in Non-Smog County

My Toyota Corolla will not pass the smog check. I live in Sacramento, but have it registered in Del Norte County (no smog county). My question is: Will I be able to sell it in that county without a smog check? For transfer of ownership? It's a GREAT car, but I'm ready for a new one, and am not sure what to do with this one. I think I can apply for the CAP program, but I'd rather sell it to someone that could use it. Thank you.

Answer:

Even in a non-smog county, a smog check is required for title transfer. Non-smog counties are exempt from the biennial smog check only. You may be eligible for the CAP repair program now, however keep in mind the new owner of the vehicle will not be. CAP is not available to vehicle owners who have recently purchased a vehicle and have not yet transferred the title to their name.
