General Smog Check

Catalyst Monitor not ready. 2000 Toyota Camry, LE, 2.4L.

The car has new engine (same type). After clearing a couple of trouble codes, Catalyst Monitor has not ready even after driving for 600 miles, without check engine light. The other monitors are working. I was told by a Smog Tech. that it will pass the smog test if only one monitor is not ready for 2000 year model. It won't pass if there are more than one. Is that true? It is a California vehicle.

Thank you.

Answer:

Your smog technician is correct. Your 2000 Toyota Camry can only have one incomplete monitor and still pass the smog check; except the Catalyst monitor if your vehicle failed an OBD smog test in the past for any catalyst efficiency trouble codes. If your 2000 Toyota Camry has not had trouble code problems relating to the Catalytic Converter it can pass the smog check with one monitor not ready or incomplete.
