If you're looking for one book to study the entire content of state's smog
technicians exam either (EA or BA), it doesn't exist. Getting a smog
technician license would be way too easy that way. The only way is... You've
got to study the categories/subjects one by one. ASE and alternates will
have the proper study material for L1 (Advanced Engine Performance
Diagnosis; this is the one you want to focus on), A8 and A6. Several manuals
and study guides are available for these subjects in book stores, libraries
and online. Prentice-Hall, Inc. probably makes the best study material and
text books on soft back, hard back and CD-ROM.
