How Do I Determine Back Fees for Non-Registered Vehicle?

Do I need a smog for a 1988 vehicle and how do I determine back fees for a non-registered vehicle? The registration expired in 2012 and I've not had any type of registration since then. I assume I have to get it smog checked and pay for registration fees from 2012-current. How do I know how much the back reg will cost? And can it get it smogged first? Thank you.

Answer:

Best thing to do is visit NeedTags.com and enter your vehicle's license plate number and the last three of the VIN to lookup the current registration which you owe. You may also call them at (800) 300-7311 ext 1 and they can help look up your fees over the phone. Also, 1988 vehicles (14,000 GVWR and under) do need a California smog check every two years and during initial registration.
