1996 Chevy Cavalier. Failed smog check at test only center. I can't get it registered now.

1996 Chevy Cavalier. Failed Smog Check II at test only center. Car is in my name, all registration and fees are paid. Won't pass smog. The previous owner is gone. I do not have the smog cert. The registration and fees are paid. The owner name is changed. I only need test to complete the transfer and it will not pass. What now? I spent $300 to register it and bring it up to date. I can't pay for repairs. It's in myh name - half-way - so I dont' qualify for CAP.


Answer:		Truth is... And it's very unfortunate but at this point it seems as though you are stuck with the repair. State law indicates a seller is repsonsible for a smog check before they sell the vehicle to avoid situations like this. In this case you mention the seller is gone... So it seems it will be up to you to get the car to pass. Sorry. No state assisitance available. posted by SmogTips Support
