Failed Smog Test

1992 Toyota Paseo. Designated Gross Polluter, later passed. Is it OK now?

I'm looking at buying this car. Its CarFax report indicates multiple alternating failed and passed smog checks. Two times it failed its smog check and was designated a Gross Polluter, back in 1999 and 2000. Its O2 sensors were repaired, it passed, later failed twice, but it has passed consistently since then. Has the gross polluter designation completely disappeared now that it passes smog consistently? Are the multiple past failures and GP designation anything to worry about potentially? Any insight is welcome, thanks!

Answer:

No need to worrie about the GP status. This vehicle will always be a "directed" vehicle, meaning it will always need a Test Only smog inspection due to its age. So long as the car is in good shape you should be fine.
