2003 Mitsubishi Lancer with Nevada registration. Does it need to have an OBD II California CAT?

Does my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer need to have a California approved Catalytic Converter (Exhaust System)? I plan on bringing this car to California.

Answer:

If you plan on bringing this vehicle to California and registering it here, it will need to have only the emissions components which it was originally equipped with when it left the factory. In otherwords, if the car has only a 49-state legal CAT, that's fine. So long as you havn't modified it in any way. New vehicles, on the other hand which are being brought to California, must be equipped with 50-state (California) legal emission parts... such as an OBD II compliant Catalytic Converter.
