Portugal is a difficult one... California will mail out your registration
tags to another state as long as it's not Nevada or Arizona. If your BMW is
in those two states, you'll need to bring it back to California to get a
smog check. Since your BMW is out of the country we don't know what the DMV
would do. You might want to call them and inquire. Normally you fill a DMV
statement of facts form stating your vehicle is out of the state and they
will exempt your vehicle from the smog check. Call the DMV at (800)
777-0133.
