General Smog Check

Will my 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier pass with the check engine light on?

I have to smog my car at a test only smog check station and my service engine light is on all the time due to having the fuse for the horn pulled out. The horn will honk constantly if I put it back in. The bolt fell out of the steering wheel (a while back) that holds the horn in place. It is inacccessable for me to get that bolt back in place. Will my car not pass becouse of this? Can I leave it or should I put the fuse back in and let it honk so the light is off? Can I do that? I don't want to put to much into repair as I don't have the money.

Answer:

We would recommend checking with a smog check station to make sure the light which is illuminated is in fact the check engine or service engine soon light. It seems odd that a removed horn fuse would cause the service engine soon light to illuminate. The two possibilities are that the light which is on is not the service engine soon light, and will not cause a smog check failure, and the second possibility is that the fuse which controls the horn also is responsibly for an emission related component which is causing the service engine soon light to turn on; which will cause a smog check failure. Visit a local smog check station for a quick answer.
