General Smog Check

2001 Chevy S10 2.2L Flex Fuel Won't Connect to Smog Machine

I have a 2001 Chevy S10 with a Flex Fuel engine. The smog machine would not connect to the OBD II port (DLT). Weird thing is it will connect to an OBD-II scanner. Any ideas?

Answer:

Your Chevy S10 may fall into a category of S10 Flex Fuel models which have known OBD-II monitor readiness issues. The OIS emission device however should be tuned to detect the Chevy S10 as having known issues and ignore Emission Monitor readiness requirements... Your S10 should technically pass the smog inspection.

You may consider attempting the smog test a second time, maybe at another smog station with different OIS equipment, or visiting the smog check referee's office. You may contact the state smog check referee by calling (800) 622-7733.

Certain flex fuel models with the vehicle identification numbers (VINs) listed below may have trouble making emission monitors ready.
