Which Work Van Has Best Chance to Pass? 2004-2010 Chevy Express or Ford Econoline?

I am moving to California from New York State. I have access to a handful of used cargo vans from my company's fleet. My plan is to use one of these vans for the move and sell it upon my arrival in California. All vans are in good working condition and have been well maintained. We have both Chevy and Ford vans (Express 1500/2500 and E-150/E-250) ranging from years 2004 to 2010. I am basing my decision of which to take with me on which one has the best chance of passing the smog test, since I read that it is required to provide a smog certificate when selling the van in California. Do either of these models or years have a better chance than others? Is there any possibility of a van passing if it doesn't include "conforms to California regulations" on the emissions sticker? Thanks!

Answer:

Both vehicles can pass the California smog test. As far as emission components and eligibility; both vehicles can be registered in California once they pass the smog test, since they are USED; regardless of whether they are 49-state or 50-state (California) emissions certified. The smog test on these vehicles (later model 2000 & newer) will consist of a visual inspection of engine emission components and functional inspection of the OBD-II system.
