You are correct. The smog technician must administer two separate exhaust probes into each exhaust pipe only on a true dual exhaust system. On vehicles which have two tailpipes but one combined exhaust stream, only a single exhaust probe must be used. It is important to note when and if a vehicle does or does not have an x-pipe or h-pipe exhaust configuration.
