The gas gauge malfunctioning will not affect your vehicle's smog check results. The smog inspection does not test a vehicle's gas gauge system nor other dashboard lights/gauges (except for the Check Engine Light, Service Engine Soon Light, or Malfunction Indicator Lamp). A vehicle can not pass the smog check with any of these lights are on or not functioning properly.
